That’s a photo from the press conference held for the upcoming Lee Jun Ik film Like The Moon Escaping From Clouds on the 23rd. In attendance were the above couple (tee hee hee), director Lee Jun Ik, Cha Seung Won, and Han Ji Hye.
Lee Jun Ik revealed at the conference that Baek Sung Hyun had been one of the top four contenders for the role of Gong-gil in The King and the Clown. He’d thought that Baek’s acting was the best out of the four, but his image wasn’t quite right for Gong-gil, so Lee Jun Ki had eventually been chosen instead. Remembering Baek’s good acting, he’d planned on casting him in his film The Happy Life, but since his singing skills weren’t that great, Jang Geun Seok got the role instead. But now with this role Baek Sung Hyun has finally acted in an Lee Jun Ik film.
Baek Sung Hyun admitted that since Lee Jun Ki and Jang Geun Seok had done so well in Lee’s previous films, he felt a lot of pressure to deliver through Clouds. But thanks to the help he got from his senior actors and the director, he managed to film without a hitch. He said: “I really worked myself to death.” Lee Jun Ik praised the star, saying: “I don’t think there’s any actor at Baek Sung Hyun’s age who can act as well as he does.”
Lee Jun Ik also said about star Han Ji Hye: “I scolded her a lot because she didn’t act well…Afterwards, Han Ji Hye changed. We were in the middle of shooting, and Hwang Jung Min gave me a thumbs up. I immediately gave the OK. That was the power of my scolding.”
Han Ji Hye had this to say about Lee’s scolding: “I didn’t normally hold a lot of pain inside, but since the director scolded me so much, pain formed in my heart…In the film, Baek-ji is a woman with a lot of pain, and I was able to portray that well. (laughs)”
Hwang Jung Min revealed that once while drinking with Cha Seung Won after filming, he proposed that they work together again someday. He said about his co-star: “There’s a certain strength one can feel when performing one’s part with tension, then releasing it. I felt that while acting with Cha Seung Won. If we get the chance, I’d really like to work with him again.” Cha Seung Won, in turn, said that they’d only seen each other three or four times on set, but during filming for a fight scene between the two of them, he realized that Hwang Jung Min isn’t praised so much for nothing. He said: “He knows exactly what he has to do, and he does it well. While working with Hwang Jung Min, I realized once again that acting isn’t war, but unity.”
